Mini Golf for Good: Taking it to the Next Level for PTSD Treatment & Awareness

If you look back on our blog and YouTube you’ll see plenty of pics and video over the last few years of something called the #minigolf4good tournament – an unconventional fundraiser for the IC focused on connecting much needed mental health services with veterans, contractors and their families. This year, 2024, marked the 4th fundraising event put together by members of BTS and other key leaders in the IC and wow… what a day. We’ll let the pictures tell the full story but here’s a quick run down of the event by the numbers:

2024 Tournament: By the Numbers

  • 300 Players
  • 1 Axe throwing rig
  • 1 Mechanical bull
  • 4 Frozen margarita taps
  • 40+ trophies and awards
  • 50+ volunteers
  • 98 degrees at midday
  • 82 sponsors
  • 4 skydivers, 1 ground controller, and a sponsor jumper
  • $4500 raised in spontaneous generosity the day-of the event
  • And most importantly, $130,000 raised for The Headstrong Project!

Team BTS was able to support the planning, execution, and day-long event, helping welcome hundreds of players and sponsors (and keep them cool) throughout the two sessions. The main event of each tournament is always the presentation of the check, because it is such a powerful reminder that the funds raised go directly to therapy sessions for those that need it. After this year’s event we are thrilled to know that hundreds of veterans, contractors, and their families will receive no-cost, frictionless sessions with Headstrong staff- including some from our close community.

Each year the IC4 leadership committee selects one veteran to highlight whose story connects with the greater mission of the event and honors their service while acknowledging their struggles. Our featured hero this year was Master Sergeant Thomas W. Hancock, a friend of BTS’ Cathy Carlson, who unfortunately passed away just weeks before the event. Honoring his memory and hearing from his family was a powerful reminder to us that the need is great but the hope is greater. Learn more about IC4’s featured heroes and Thomas Hancock here.
